Data sources

Vero uses free data sources whose terms allow it to be shown in a commercial product. This page lists each one, what it powers in Vero, and the credit the source asks for. Where a number from a source appears in Vero, that credit appears with it.

Prices are end of day, not live. Vero does not currently have a licence for real-time prices, intraday charts or analyst estimates, so it doesn't show them.

IEX Historical Data — end-of-day prices

What it powers: each stock's last close and daily change, daily price history and charts, returns and ranges Vero calculates from those closes, and price multiples such as P/E.

What the numbers are: trades on the IEX exchange only, published the morning after each session. The close is the last IEX trade of the regular session, not the official consolidated closing price, and volume is IEX volume, a small share of all trading. IEX data is not adjusted for stock splits.

SEC EDGAR — filings and fundamentals

What it powers: reported financials (revenue, net income, earnings per share, cash flow, balance sheet), the ratios Vero computes from them, filing summaries, past earnings release dates and Vero's estimate of the next one, and company search (Vero keeps its own weekly copy of the SEC's list of listed companies, so search never calls an outside service per keystroke).

Credit: the SEC asks to be cited as the source. Vero shows:

with a link to the filing itself where there is one. Information on sec.gov is public; Vero does not use the SEC's seal or logos.

Federal Reserve, BLS and BEA — the economic calendar

What they power: the dates of FOMC decisions (Federal Reserve Board), releases such as CPI, the jobs report and PPI (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics), and GDP and personal income and outlays (U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis), in Vero's calendar and the Assistant.

Citing these agencies does not mean they endorse Vero. Their material is public; Vero does not use their emblems.

NYSE holiday calendar — market holidays

What it powers: the market holidays and early closes in Vero's calendar.

These dates were read from the NYSE holidays and trading hours page and entered into Vero by hand. Vero does not collect anything from the NYSE website automatically. Always check the NYSE page for the official schedule.

GDELT Project — news discovery

What it powers: finding news about the companies you follow. Vero stores the headline, the link, the publisher's domain and the date, plus its own short summary. It never stores or republishes article text or publishers' images; the articles belong to their publishers, and every headline links to the original.

Required citation: GDELT asks that any use include a citation to the GDELT Project and a link to its website. Vero shows:

What Vero doesn't show right now

• Real-time prices and intraday charts. Vero shows the last end-of-day close, with its date.
• Analyst ratings, estimates and price targets. These need a licence Vero doesn't currently have.
• Third-party chart widgets. Vero considered TradingView's free embeddable widgets and does not use them: every chart, mover list, heatmap, screener and calendar in Vero is built by Vero from the sources above.
• Crypto prices. These are switched off. The free exchange feed Vero looked at (Coinbase Exchange) does not allow its data to be shown to an app's users without a separate agreement, so Vero doesn't use it.

Accuracy

Vero passes these figures on as the sources publish them, and computes some of its own from them (for example margins, returns and P/E). Sources can be late, incomplete or wrong. Vero is for information only and is not financial advice; see the Disclaimer. Questions about a figure? Contact us.
